Find The Best Ceramic Flat Iron For You

If you’ve already read our post on Why Hair Becomes Curly, then you already know that you will require heat to keep it straight.  But what is the easiest way to apply it? What qualities should you look for in a new straightening iron? Let’s discuss the benefits of a ceramic iron.

Ceramic irons are the most effective irons around today.  This is due to the fact that they heat up extremely quickly,  (usually within about ten seconds!) and they are able to HOLD that heat in while you are styling your hair.  This is an extremely important feature; if you need constant heat to break the hydrogen bonds and straighten your hair, why wouldn’t you want an iron that could provide it? Cheaper irons without ceramic coatings have a tendency to vary greatly in heat output, often requiring the user to pause between strokes just to retain the required temperature.  This is a constant annoyance and inevitably leads to an inferior straightening.

Another benefit of ceramic irons is their durable construction.  Since they are sprayed with several thick coatings of ceramic material, the plates will last for years and never chip away.  This also makes them very smooth and gentle on your hair.  Cheaper straighteners only have a coating of paint that provides the appearance of a true ceramic coating. This paint will easily chip away, becoming more and more hazardous to your hair.  The rough plates will begin to heat even less efficiently and worse, snag your hair and pull it out.

So, the best type of straightening iron is obviously a ceramic iron.  We are looking specifically for ceramic irons with thick durable plates and easily adjustable, constant heat.  As with anything else, with a straightening iron, you get what you pay for.  Irons on the cheaper side take forever to heat up, have flaky paint coatings that will damage your hair and eventually rip it out, and often can’t maintain the heat required to make your hair straight.  If you think about it, a hair straightening at the salon costs fifty to a hundred dollars or more, and you can get the same results with a high quality flat iron which costs about that much, and you only have to spend it once.  My advice to you would be to spend the money on a quality product that will do an amazing job and last a very long time and avoid buying a cheaper version which will only annoy you and slowly destroy your hair.
