A Cross Section of the Human Hair

A Cross Section of the Human Hair

Your hair becomes curly and frizzy because of natural hydrogen bonds in its core.  In moist environments, these molecules become sticky and attach to one another, bunching up and causing your hair to bend and retain funky shapes.

The straightening iron was invented to break these bonds in an efficient and convenient manner.  It works by heating your hair to the point where the hydrogen molecules can no longer stick to each other, which gently splits them apart and leaves your hair completely straight.  These treatments can last anywhere from a few hours to a few days, depending on the strength ofthe natural bonds in your hair and the moisture present in your environment; for example, those who live in the desert will enjoy a longer lasting straightening than those who live in areas with high humidity.

Also, ethnicity plays a role here as well. Thicker hair leads to thicker bonds.  Surprisingly, those of Asian descent have the thickest hair around.  Caucasians and those of African descent actually have very similar hair, though differences in thickness and density often make it appear very different.  Regardless of where you’re from, it is all straightened in the same way, with the same tools.  Don’t be afraid to show your hair who’s boss!
